In recent times, we have seen the growth of mobile cell phone dating using SMS and text messaging.

Many of these phone dating communities are now growing rapidly, keeping pace with the incredible popularity of the cellphone. Users flirt, chat or date through the cell phone network and it is becoming a great way to start relationships. These kinds of services have become extremely popular, and the “try before you buy” technique of marketing mobile phone dating is making it extremely popular.

Club M8 Mobile Dating Service claims to be the leader in the cell phone dating market. One of their biggest selling point is that Club M8 does not require use of a credit card.

Depending on the carrier, users will be charged a maximum amount per text message or per month for unlimited texts. Users are billed through their cell phone provider. The following carriers support the service: Alltel, AT&T, Boost, Cellular One, Nextel, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless.

Usain Bolt Homecoming

Usain Bolt and I

Usain Bolt and I

There is a big party homecoming planned for Usain Bolt this Saturday at his (and mine) Alma Mater, William Knibb Memorial High in Trelawny. The all-day, all night affair will culminate in a grand live stage show that should feature Jamaica’s leading Dancehall artistes. Usain has been in the island since last week, but with his unparalleled performance in the Beijing Olympics in China, he is an unofficial National Hero.

Usain has unintentionally stolen the spotlight from the other athletes and I feel sad for all of them. Crowds lined the streets for miles in Kingston to welcome him and he was appointed Ambassador-At-Large. Ambassador Bolt truly deserves all the accolades and it couldn’t happen to a finer person. I am honored to know him personally, seeing him grow and blossoming into the greatest of the great sprinters of all time. However, unlike a lot of people, I haven’t forgotten Veronica Campbell-Brown (like Usain, she’s from Trelawny), Shelly-Ann Fraser, Melainie Walker, Keron Stewart, Sherone Simpson, Asafa Powel, Michael Frater (can’t forget him, he’s also from my parish, Trelawny).

Speaking of Trelawny, my parish has produced arguably some of the finest track & field athletes from any comparable area in the entire world. These athletes are all from within a 30 mile radius and include Usain Bolt (the world’s fastest man), Michael Frater, Omar Brown (Commonwealth 200m Champion who was taught by my brother at Albert Town High School), Veronica Campbell (World 100m and Olympic 200m Champion who is now married to Omar Brown), Marvin Anderson, who also went to William Knibb, the infamous Ben Johnson (who was a year or two ahead of me at Falmouth All-Age School ), Debbi-Ann Paris (Olympics 400m fifth place), Steve Mullings, Michael Green (also a William knibb Old Boy), Inez & Yvette Turner (Olympic 800m)to name a few. Indeed, 3 out of 4 members of Jamaica’s male 4×100m relay team for this Olympics are from this parish. However Marvin Anderson got injured and the number fell to two (Usain Bolt and Michael Frater) as he had to withdraw. It is arguable that a fit Trelawny team comprised of Usain Bolt, Michael Frater, Marvin Anderson and Omar Brown could win the gold medal at the Olympics!

Now I am learning that Rosemarie Whyte, one of our 400 meters runner is also from Trelawny along with Ricardo Chambers. 200 meters runner Christopher Williams‘ mother is reportedly also from Trelawny. We have totally overshadowed the other 13 parishes. These athletes have forced the rest of the country to respect us and have them wondering what it is about Trelawny that makes our athletes so good. People are talking about the food (yams) which are a staple here. No one knows for sure, but I think it is genetically linked. No doubt, we are truly special!

Guess what? It is only going to get better! the track programs in the local schools are now filled to capacity as everyone has been motivated by the performance of our athletes. Parents will now give their children 100% support although they have supported them well in the past, instead now every parent more passionately wants their children to do track and that augurs well for Jamaica’s future.

Blog To The World sends congratulations to all the athletes who made the Jamaican team to the Olympics, not just those who won. You all made us proud! Yu zi mi!

History Of Chess

History of Chess

Chaturanga is an old Indian game which is thought to be the common predecessor of chess, shogi, and makruk, and related to xiangqi and janggi. Chaturanga has been played since the 6th century or before, hence Chaturanga is most commonly thought to be the oldest version of chess. Chaturanga is the direct ancestor of Shatranj, which was the form that delivered chess to medieval Europe.

In Sanskrit, “Chatur-anga-bala” literally means “an army comprising (4 parts , viz.) elephants, chariots, cavalry, and infantry”. The game too shows fourfold division of the ancient Indian military. Other than the king and his counsellor or general in the center, the army consisted of the following chess pieces:

* Infantry represented by a line of advancing pawns.
* Thundering war elephants near the middle of the army. Later, this somewhat weak piece was thought not to be a suitable representation of the power of the real elephant in war in India. This caused a change of move and of name, and often in India nowadays the rook is called the elephant and the bishop is called the camel.
* Mounted cavalry represented by the horse with a move that facilitated flanking.
* Chariots on the wings which move quickly but linearly and became the rook in Europe, but a ship as chess crossed north into Russia. TheChessZone

Chaturanga was played on an 8×8 uncheckered board. The board had some special markings, the meaning of which is unknown today. These markers were not related to chaturanga, but were drawn on the board only by tradition. The great chess historian Murray has conjectured that the board was also used for some old race-type dice game, perhaps similar to Chowka bhara, in which these markers had a meaning.

Hunting And The Problem Of Hair

It’s the first day of hunting season, and you’re ready to face the challenge. You’re up in your tree stand, you’ve got your gear prepared, your bow is tuned to perfection, you’ve done your homework and scoped out the area, and you have an arrow with that buck’s name on it. You’re ready for the long wait, and you’ve taken every precaution to ensure you’re scentless. You have carefully silenced your bow and worn clothing that doesn’t make any noise.

Off to the left, you hear something and you turn your head. Swish! Wait a minute. What was that? You turn your head the other way and hear the faint noise again. Hey…that wasn’t supposed to happen! How could you overlook something so obvious?

Hunting has long been known as a man’s world, full of ego and prowess. But the sport of hunting is increasingly becoming an area that women are working their way into. However, those who teach women are often men, and instruction about the little considerations is geared towards what men know. Since most men have short hair, talk about how to keep hair off your face and out of your vision is lacking.

So what do you do with your hair when game hunting to ensure it doesn’t lessen your chances of bringing home a fine, fat deer? There are a few options available. Most women find that tucking their hair up under a baseball cap works fine. If your hair is thin enough and of medium length, you can get away with wearing a hat to keep your hair from making noise or getting in the way of your vision.

Longer-haired women also try to tie their hair back in a ponytail or braid. The only drawback to a ponytail is that it can get snagged on briars, branches, and twigs. It can also make noise if it slides across the back of your jacket. If you want, you can tuck your ponytail inside the back of your jacket or shirt. Long, thick, curly hair is probably the worst combination for hunting. If you can, pull your curls into a tight ponytail and twist the ponytail up under your baseball cap. You can worry about combing out the tangles later.

French braids tend to use many small sections of hair and can help small wisps from working themselves loose to flutter in the wind and your eyes. You can find instructions on creating a French braid on the internet, but for those who have difficulty braiding their own hair in this fashion, try another alternative: Pull your hair back into a ponytail, and tie off one-inch sections down the length with small elastics. Another way to keep hair neat and quiet is to use hairnets or leather cases that enclose the whole length. Of course, if all creative attempts fail, you can certainly go for the short-haired look!
